storm 70 °F

So. We had our pre-race briefing yesterday. Aside from addressing normal questions and concerns (parking, times, bodymarking etc....) We were informed that the arena that the finish line is set up in and the event's expo set up - is so big that it can be seen from airplanes as they approach Des Moines. One of the biggest races in the country - and without a doubt the most organized I have ever even imagined.

Packet Pick up was yesterday too AKA getting a ridiculous amount of free stuff (and our race numbers - which are temporary tattoos - So I'm very excited to be an 8 year old again later today and cover my arms and legs with them) Every athlete gets a hy-vee bike jersey, visor, triathlon backpack that is filled filled filled with samples from sponsoring companies - like snapple, kellogs, pepsi, general mills, gillette, cliff bar, gatorade, dole, and a bazillion more It was like Christmas.

Up at 5:30 today to do an early lake swim - finished just in time before the skies opened up like crazy. A wicked thunderstorm. Again. The junior races today have been postponed for three hours. Tomorrows forecast is not looking good either. Oh well.

Tomorrow is an early morning (understatement) up @ 3:30 - on the road at 4. Transition area by 5. Race starts at 6, and my heat is at 6:38. Yikes!!! I hope that we don't get delayed as well, that would make nutrition /fuel management really tough.
Awards are at 11:30 - then the pros are set to start at 12:30 - which is going to be insane. The last years men's finish....the difference between 1st and 3rd place was 1/10th of a second. The other difference between 1st and 3rd was $200,000 prize purse vs. $25,000 prize purse. It is going to be competitive like I have never ever seen before.

That's all for now.

Here's to Peace, Clear Skies & Taking Home Some Hardware,

P.S. For Realsies.
